The moment you set foot at the JFK Terminals in Queens, there are a myriad of things you can do. Even those who are on a long layover can keep themselves busy in many ways. But it isn’t the Airport that you want to explore.

It’s the many sights and sounds of the different cities of New York State. But what and where exactly are these spots?

Continue reading below to find out.

Check Out the Woodstock Film Festival

Though the health pandemic will likely delay your plans of visiting New York State, it doesn’t mean you cannot start planning ahead of time. And a visit to New York is incomplete without dropping by the Woodstock Film Festival.

If you are a film buff, this place is heaven on earth for you. Here, you can enjoy a long list of independent films and documentaries.

Furthermore, you can join panel discussions showcasing industry experts. You may chance upon actors and directors during such events.

But if plays and musicals are your things, you may also head on to the Woodstock Playhouse. The place showcases musical theater programming in a historic ambiance. The tradition dates back to 1938 when the Woodstock Playhouse opened.

Go Hiking in Catskill Region

Is hiking your thing? Then you need to visit New York State’s Catskill Region. There are many spots in the area that you can explore.

If you’re visiting during spring or summer, Vernooy Kill Falls is a great spot to trek. It features a 3.3-mile hike that lets you enjoy extensive views of rock pools and waterfalls.

And if the temperature gets a bit hot, you can take a quick dip into the water to cool down.

But if you want something more challenging, then Overlook Mountain is the way to go. Located at the town of Woodstock, Overlook Mountain offers an uphill route with a majestic reward waiting at its peak.

At the top, you get to enjoy breathtaking views of the hills below and the mountains’ overlook. Furthermore, volunteers will welcome you up top with some cookies and refreshments.

But if forests and the wilderness are what you want, then head on to the Balsam Lake Mountain Wild Forest Trail. The route is 4.3 miles long though the scenery will keep you company for sure.

You will see a variety of wildflowers and foliage as you go up the trail en route to the town of Fire Tower.

Long Island’s Beaches and Lighthouses

Are you the beach type? Then you will enjoy what New York State has to offer. Head on to Long Island and enjoy miles of powdery beaches.

Of the many popular beaches in the area, the ones to visit include Crab Meadow Beach, Jones Beach State Park, and Long Beach. You can also check Coopers Beach in Southampton, the Orient Beach State Park, and Main Beach in East Hampton.

For a romantic time along the shores, be sure to check out some of New York State’s popular lighthouses. These lighthouses reflect the state’s rich maritime history.

Be sure to check out Montauk Point Lighthouse, which is the state’s oldest. You may also visit the Fire Island Lighthouse. It is 168 feet tall and features a total of 192 steps.

New York Travel Tips For Better Wine

If you think that you can only enjoy fine wine in Napa Valley in California, then Long Island will have something to say about that. There are dozens of wineries in the city, though there are some that do stand out.

Pindar Vineyards is Long Island’s largest winery. It features 500 acres that are home to around 17 different grape varieties.

Another must-see winery is Channing Daughters. Despite being only 28 acres wide, the winery boasts of over 2 dozens of grape varieties.

If you want something with a more modern touch, you will love the Bridge Lane Wine. Catering to a much younger crowd, this winery offers five special wines that they pack in different formats.

You can have them in cans, bottles, boxes, or kegs.

Immerse In Art

If you happen to be an art lover, then Hudson Valley is the place to be. The area is home to several excellent art destinations.

First, there is the 500-acre Storm King Art Center. It is an impressive outdoor sculpture park featuring contemporary and modern art. Since the place is spacious, the installations are large-scale.

Another interesting sculpture park is the Art Omi. It features architectural creations with lawns, woods, and natural landscapes as background.

There is also the Olana State Historic Site. The place is an ode to the area’s Hudson River School art movement from the 19th century. It features epic paintings and large-scale carvings that will certainly leave your breathless.

And oh, did we mention that New York State is also home to a unique underground art scene?

The Big Apple

No list of New York travel tips is complete without a visit to New York City. Though NYC became the country’s coronavirus epicenter, it is slowly but surely getting up on its feet. Nevertheless, there are lots to experience in the city once things start to normalize.

Apart from the city’s parks, there are impressive works of architecture to behold. Be sure to visit Top of the Rock and the Empire State Building. These are must-see icons that also double as observation decks.

If you’re a sports lover, you can catch a game of the Yankees or the Knicks.

And if the Big Apple is your last stop before heading back to the airport, the city is a haven for taxi service providers.
